Recall Information

Disclaimer of Recalled Children's Products: It is against the law to resell products that are on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website as having been deemed unsafe for children. To see if your product has been recalled, go to: www.cpsc.gov. If you have a product that has ever been recalled, it will not be accepted in any Ring Around the Rosey Sale.

We are responsible for making sure all items brought into the sale are safe.  Each consignor and shopper needs to be aware of recalls, products with high lead levels, safety issues, etc.  Together we can make this sale safe for all involved!

**The U.S CPSC released requirements for new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act -CPSIA.  They also released a statement clarifying requirements for resellers of used children’s products: (in part)

*January 8, 2009: "Under the new law, children's products with more than 600 ppm total lead cannot lawfully be sold in the United States on or after February 10, 2009, even if they were manufactured before that date. The total lead limit drops to 300 ppm on August 14, 2009.

The new law requires that domestic manufacturers and importers certify that children's products made after February 10 meet all the new safety standards and the lead ban. Sellers of used children's products, such as thrift stores and consignment stores, are not required to certify that those products meet the new lead limits, phthalates standard or new toy standards."

CPSC Grants One Year Stay of Testing and Certification Requirements for Certain Products.

What does this mean for us as consignors?  These are some helpful guidelines given to us from the CPSC:

* CPSC is not focused on resale in regards to enforcement: CPSC requires everyone to follow the law, there is not an exemption from the law for our industry and we should all do the common sense things and take care not to sell un-safe products. The CPSC is not focused on policing the resale/consignment industry; they focus on manufacturers/importers/large retailers (the big guys)

* Specific mention of children's jewelry as products to totally avoid re-selling.

* Specific guidance on cribs - should be fully assembled, verified for all parts, not on recall list, safe based on CPSC guide, etc.

* Specific guidance on children’s toys - bright colored (red, yellow, blue) plastic toys for children 2-4 are more common violators of lead limit issues.
